Mexico City claims zombie walk world record

Hey walkers! Check out this great news!

Guess we have some competition....!

To quote the BBC article below,

"Nearly 10,000 people have paraded in Mexico City dressed as zombies in what organisers claim is the biggest "zombie walk" ever held.

Wearing ghoulish make-up and rags splattered with fake blood, the "undead" shambled and groaned through the heart of the capital.

The current Guinness world record is held by Asbury Park in the US, where 4,093 zombies marched in 2010.

Zombie walks have grown in popularity worldwide in recent years.

The craze for dressing up as the "living dead" has been fuelled by movies, television, video games and literature.

A group in Brisbane in Australia has also laid claim to the record after massing 8,000 zombies last month.

Cultural critics have variously suggested the phenomenon may be linked to economic austerity or a critique of consumerism.

But participants usually say they are doing it for fun.

Correspondents say the craze has particular resonance in Mexico, where the "Day of the Dead" is a national celebration and where brutal killings by drugs gangs dominate the news.

Elsewhere in Latin America, Lima in Peru, Santiago in Chile and Sao Paulo in Brazil have all staged zombie walks this year."

I don't know about you guys, but Queen Zombie here had a night worthy of crawling all the way out of her grave for. Did not expect such a fantastic turn out, with such fantastic zombies! It was great to see people really getting into it, especially the civilians as we passed. Let us know what your favorite part of the night was!

But, alas, Queen Zombie is having a hard time remember exactly how many brains she ate, so do her a favor, and post all your photos to the Facebook page! This will also rub it in the faces of all the people who didn't show up.....! (Its a two-fer) Keep us updated all year to let us know if anything wasn't up to par, or if there was something you loved so much you just need MORE. (Aside from having a bar that fits everyone....!)

Thank again for a great turn-out. Now, this zombie needs to crawl back in her grave for a few months.....

Less than a week until the infestation! Have you all decided what kind of zombie you'll be? You know, acceptable costumes do include survivors or zombie "hunters"......or, be creative! Think of all the different zombies you can be....!

Remember, you MUST be in costume to receive drink discounts.

Also, keep in mind, this is our FIRST year with this event. This is also the one and ONLY ever San Francisco zombie crawl, though they've been done in other parts of the world for decades now. Because of this, we are truly relying on word of mouth to get people together for this event. Our team has posted over 400 flyers around the city in attempt to get the word out, now help us by telling your friends! (Even if you cannot join us this year...!)

Please be patient; As much as your hoarde master will try to keep everyone on schedule, zombies have a tendency to move slow (especially after a few drinks).

After Cafe Royale, there is no more "scheduled" stops, but don't let that stop you from planning some extra stops on the way home. All bars SF Zombie Crawl has contacted were very open to zombie madness, but only these 3 were willing to give us cheaper booze....! So, explore the city and have a great time! Maybe some friends you met on the trip will join you....!

As we begin to get closer to the infestation, let's start unveiling some of the special events we have planned for the big crawl out!

Recently scheduled, we have Cafe Royale offering their facilities after 11pm, so if you can't meet up with us earlier, come on down when you can! Located at 800 Post st., @ Leavenworth.....

They will be featuring$1 off boont amber ale and deschutte's black butte porter on tap, $1 off merlot and torrantes, and a $5 special cocktail for everyone in costume!

Zombie Dos and Don'ts

ZOMBIE CRAWL GUIDELINES:

San Francisco is a big city - a popular city. Please, don't mess with kids, parents, dangerous homeless people, tourists, etc....
Dress for the weather! San Francisco is famous for wind and rain - and random warm spots located across the street from where you are. Bars can be packed and sweaty - take this into consideration too. Your one night back on the land of the living can quickly be ruined by not dressing accordingly.
Prepare for anything! This is an all night adventure - it is completely up to you when you want to stay or leave. You could be out for hours, so prepare to either bring a snack or eat something on the way
Watching zombies get drunk and rowdy is fun. Babysitting zombies while he vomits in an alley is not. Don't be that zombie. Know your limit, and pace yourself - it could be a long night.
Make sure you always pay for your drinks and tip the bar staff. We don't want to get a bad image, an would prefer to do this again. And, try to pay fast as you can - there are more zombies waiting for their drinks!
Stay with the group. It's not just a case of "the more, the scarier" - Zombies are more dangerous with large numbers of fellow undead and what one zombie can't achieve (or get away with) is a possibility for 50 or more! Enlist your friends!
Dress up! You don't have to dress exactly like a typical zombie. In fact, unusual interpretations of the undead are much appreciated, both by those we bring fear to....Feel free to bring on Bruce Campbell, Planet Terror, etc., etc.,.....
Please remember that this is all about having fun. Drink if you'd like, don't if you don't. But, no one wants to see a sh*t-faced zombie puking, or worse, getting in trouble with the cops.
Zombies don't drink and drive. Its pretty safe if they do even NOT drunk, but thats beside the point. Please, arrange for a MUNI or taxi to take you back to your graveyard.
You SHOULD "moan" like a zombie. Let 'em know you're coming, practice your undead rage.
Zombies don't talk to the press. We have no official statement other than "Braaiiiins...."
Zombies don't get arrested.
Bring some friends! Make some friends! Lone zombies never do much damage.....

Welcome to the After Life!

We've seen this all before - zombie mobs and pub crawls across the nation. We've watched others have all the fun pouring blood all over themselves and friends, tearing their clothes up and getting wasted in the name of zombie awareness everywhere. But, we at SF Zombie Crawl will wait no longer for these events to come to San Francisco!

On October 22nd, around 7pm, we will meet and have a never ending evening of the devil's debauchery. In the similar spirit of pub crawls SF already has going (see the wonderful Santarchy/Santacon, if you don't already participate), we want to have a great night full of zombie madness and booze. Its as simple as that! Come in any attire you wish, as long as it is undead inspired (be you a fresh victim, long rotted, or unfortunate survivor). Then, bring some money for some great pubs and bars with some fantastic drinks and friends.
